just another day on whitworth drive.

as most of you know, we've just recently moved to a new development in oakville. so new in fact, the houses across the street are still being finished and we don't yet have any grass. this morning, we noticed they were levelling what will someday be our backyard. the man in the little tractor rolled over it time and time again to make it as level as he could. we saw it and thought 'hey, progress!' later in the afternoon, i went with my mom to do some grocery shopping. we bought all our necessary stuff, packed up the car and headed home. upon viewing distance of our house, we noticed a rather large pile of dirt on what will soon be our front lawn, except, there was not a workman in sight. there was no one levelling, no one hammering, no one driving big trucks - not a soul. well, i figure it's not that big a deal, we'll just wait till tomorrow for the guys to come flatten it out. we drive into the driveway and i jump out to open the garage door when it hit me like a brick wall. this was no ordinary dirt. no sir, it was...yes, you got it - manure*! the combination of manure odors and the incredible heat is enough to make one want to pass out. i guess it would've been worse for the man whose job it was to level it! i think the construction men took a 'heat day' today, and packed in early cuz they weren't lingering around as usual this evening...hopefully tomorrow will prove to be a better day for them. and us.

* disclaimer: i cannot truly describe this pile of dirt as 'manure' because my mom says it is top soil - but whatever combination of various dirt varieties, let me just say, its odour is by no means pleasant.
